XCode stops working as soon as a developer installs iPhone OS 3.0.1! Apple issued an advisory with a workaround: http://adcdownload.apple.com/iphone/iphone_sdk_3.0__final/iphone_os_3.0.1_advisory.pdf This document basically says the follwing: iPhone OS 3.0 SDK and iPhone OS 3.0.1 software release for Mac OS X v10.5.7 To continue development with iPhone SDK 3.0 on your iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS running iPhone OS 3.0.1 will need to perform the following: 1. Log into your Mac with an Admin account and launch the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) 2. Copy and paste the following line into Terminal: ln -s /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/3.0\ \(7A341\) / Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/3.0.1 Note: If you installed iPhone SDK 3.0 somewhere other than the default /Developer location, replace the "/Developer" directory as appropriate.

Seems that the iPhone 3.0 Calendar Subscriptions feature is not capable of matching the color schemes as shown in iCal. Published .ics files probably do not contain the data necessary to allow iPhone 3.0 Calendar to automatically assign the correct color, and iPhone 3.0 Calendar does not seem to have a feature to allow the user to choose a color for a particular subscribed calendar. It does appear that subscribed calendars are assigned colors in the following order: red, orange, blue, green, and purple. So to get your iPhone 3.0 Calendar colors to match your desktop iCal colors, you just need to add your subscriptions in the appropriate order. If you need to skip a few colors, just subscribe to some other calendars temporarily and remove them after assigning all the correct colors. If the colors still do not appear as desired, simply remove the subscribed accounts and try again. You can add calendar subscriptions by going into the Settings App and choosing Mail, Contact, Calendars. Then tap Add Account, Other, and Add Subscribed Calendar. Enter the URL to the .ics file and tap Next to verify, and then Save. An easier way to add a subscription URL is to mail the URL to your iPhone, and then simply tap the link on your iPhone. An alert will appear allowing you to subscribe to the calendar. iPhone 3.0 then verifies and adds the calendar subscription in the background and eventually pops up another alert telling you that the calendar has been added. On my original iPhone 2G, this process appears to bog down the entire iPhone for quite some time while it downloads the calendar entries -- hopefully this works better with the new iPhone 3GS. You might be able to optimize this by only syncing the last 2 weeks of events (adustable in Settings). Be patient and always wait for the confirmation alert before you add the next subscription. It's also a good idea to be connected via fast WiFi for the initial configuration.

Here at 24x7digital, we have been having a great time tinkering with our iPhones and learning a great new programming platform. We have also had our share of frustrations preparing information for submission to to iTunesConnect.apple.com, the backend portal to the iTunes App Store. Apple wants screenshots of your new iPhone apps to display in the iTunes App Store, but they restrict the format of the uploads to either JPEG or TIFF format and also desire certain dimensions which correspond to just the content portion of the iPhone display. There are a few ways to capture screenshots from your iPhone. 1. USE THE MAC's BUILT-IN SCREEN GRABBER: While running the iPhone SDK's iPhone Simulator, you can use either the Grab program or the COMMAND-SHIFT-4 keystroke to invoke the Mac's screen grabber. Unfortunately, it generates PNG format, and you will most likely need to do some post-processing to crop the image to the correct dimensions. You can open these images in Preview and then resave them as JPEG or TIFF if you are planning to upload them to the iPhone App Store.
2. USE XCODE's ORGANIZER: While developing with XCode and a tethered iPhone, you can use XCode's Organizer window's Screenshot tab to capture screenshots. Simply press the CAPTURE button in XCode. Again, this method creates PNG format, but you can open these images in Preview and then resave them as TIFF. The dimensions for portrait-mode will be the correct iPhone dimensions of 320x480 pixels, but you will need to rotate landscape-mode screenshots, and also resave these images as JPEG or TIFF if you are planning to upload them to the iPhone App Store.
3. USE THE IPHONE'S BUILT-IN SCREEN GRABBER: You can take a screenshot directly on the iPhone by holding the POWER button and pressing the HOME button. You will hear a satisfying camera sound and the screenshot will be added to your Photo's Camera Roll where it can be emailed to yourself. Alternatively, use Image Capture after tethering your iPhone and you can view the thumbnails in Image Capture. Interestingly, this method created JPEG format files which can be uploaded directly to the iTunes App Store, though landscape images will still need to be rotated beforehand. We have also noticed some slight artifacts in certain JPEG screenshots due to the lossy compression.
4. SHAMELESS PLUG - USE 24x7digital's iPhoneScreenGrabber: Our inexpensive developer tool grabs high-quality LZW-non-lossy-compressed TIFF screenshots directly from the iPhone Simulator. These screenshots are perfectly cropped and rotated and ready for upload to the iTunes App Store. Streamline your workflow by using iPhoneScreenGrabber today!

PhotoCopy has been reviewed by French Mac site MacGeneration.com. Here's what they say about us in French: "PhotoCopy ne permet pas de faire ce que son nom semble pourtant indiquer.

We're happy to report that we have unleashed PhotoCopy 1.0 into the wild. PhotoCopy is a smart Flickr uploader which copies your iPhoto Albums to Flickr Sets. $20 demoware for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
--- Los Angeles, California - 24x7digital is proud to introduce PhotoCopy
1.0, their iPhoto to Flickr mirroring utility for Mac OS X Leopard.
Designed specifically to help protect media assets, PhotoCopy combines
iPhoto's ease of use with the great sharing features of Flickr, the
premier online photo management and sharing resource.
Select which iPhoto albums to share, and let PhotoCopy do the rest. It
uploads all of the photos in the selected album(s) to Flickr and
arranges them in matching sets. PhotoCopy also copies important image
information from iPhoto, such as title, date, time, rating, keywords
and description.
One of PhotoCopy's most prolific features is its ability to mirror
selected iPhoto albums to Flickr sets. It compares the current iPhoto
library with the users Flickr account and figures out what changes to
make and ensures they both match. Whatever is done to an album in
iPhoto, whether adding, deleting, reordering, or editing images,
PhotoCopy will dutifully make the same changes to the matching Flickr
set automatically.
PhotoCopy helps protect the user's most precious media assets from
fire, theft, and any other local disasters by creating offsite backups
of iPhoto media. It will automatically backup all assets and remembers
which photos it has uploaded so the user doesn't have to. Only those
changes in iPhoto are mirrored in Flickr, and only for the albums the
user has specified.
Feature highlights include:
* Copy Photos from iPhoto to Flickr
* Update Flickr Automatically
* Create Offsite Backups
PhotoCopy is much more than a simple iPhoto to Flickr uploader. With
its ability to mirror files, users don't have to login and maintain
their Flickr account manually, which saves time by allowing them to
manage photos in one place: iPhoto. Coupled with Flickr's excellent
resource to share photos with family and friends, PhotoCopy is the
perfect companion to Apple's iLife Suite, and uniquely serves the dual
role for offsite backups.
Minimum Requirements:
* Mac OS X Version 10.5 Leopard or later
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* 5.2 MB Hard Drive space
* iPhoto 6 (iLife '06) or iPhoto 7 (iLife '08)
* Flickr account (free or pro)
* Internet connection
Pricing and Availability:
PhotoCopy 1.0 is priced at only $20.00 (USD). A full-featured demo is
available for download. The unregistered application is limited in that
all uploaded images will include a watermark, and movies in a iPhoto
library cannot be uploaded. More information about PhotoCopy, along
with an online tutorial, is available at the 24x7digital website.

Use iPhoto's Sepia feature in conjunction with HappyHolidays! to create antique-style photo cards. You can also find some fun custom fonts to get an aged style for your card. Find a suitable photo in iPhoto and double-click it to enter the editor mode. Click on the Effects icon to bring up the Effects palette and choose Sepia to "age" your photo. Then drag it into a HappyHolidays! card. In this sample, we also used a free western-style font called Pointedly Mad from 1001fonts.com. Click here to learn more about installing fonts with Mac OS X FontBook. We also set the background color of the card to a matching color. Westward Ho!

One of the easiest ways to make great looking, fun, customized photo cards is to use the many great fonts out there. Apple's Mac OS X comes with many preinstalled fonts, but there are many more fonts available on the Internet. While some fonts cost money, there are also many great free fonts. After downloading font files from the Internet, you install fonts on you Mac using Font Book.
HappyHolidays! templates use many different fonts so that you can see different photo card styles. If a font stored in a template is not available on your Mac, you will be warned if you try creating a new document from that template, your photo card will not look exactly like the template as shown in the Template Picker. The system will substitute an available font for any missing fonts that it cannot find. If you want to have your photo card look exactly like the template, then download and install the missing font before creating your photo card from the template.
There are many font download sites on the Internet. A good starting place to look for mac fonts is: www.macfonts.com. Many fonts are already included with Mac OS X. Some that we've used in our templates are: American Typewriter, Apple Symbols, Brush Script, Chalkboard, Cochin, Helvetica, Herculanum, Hiragino Kaku Gothic, and Marker Felt. Some other free fonts we've used in our templates are:
AlphaSmoke from www.dafont.com Curiz MT from www.styopkin.com Splurge from www.dafont.com Please let us know if you have created a fun photo card with free fonts that you find on the Internet. Have fun!
